Previous Exhibition: Illuminating Dickens

November 1 - December 23, 2018

Published 175 years ago, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was an instant best seller. The classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his redemption has been reprinted countless times and adapted for the stage and screen. This exhibition features over forty new drawings and paintings by Jeremy Caniglia, created for a limited-edition release of the novel by Easton Press which has since sold out.

Attracted by Caniglia’s unflinching take on the human condition, Easton Press approached the artist to illustrate their new publication of Dickens’ dark, yet heart-warming story. Like A Christmas Carol, Caniglia’s work explores what birth, love, life, and death really mean. These themes have been present since the beginning of storytelling, but Caniglia imbues them with new life in his mesmerizing vision of Dickens’ work. Embracing the tragic and poignant qualities of A Christmas Carol, Caniglia’s drawings and paintings capture an ethereal beauty that transcends time and place.

Jeremy Caniglia (b. 1970) is known for his emotionally charged and often unsettling artwork, which focuses on the human condition. Inspired by Old Masters, such as Caravaggio and Rubens, Caniglia’s muted earthen palette and visceral brushstrokes breathe new energy into the human form. His work is at once intimate, piercing, distressing, and haunting, as he explores the morality and psychology of humanity.
